VCMP Sunday Challenge Entries

So we continue with the Sunday challenges.  The mojo is wearing down but hopefully I met the challenges.

The first challenge was to use the weekly sketch #232.  I used the Crafty Secrets Dog for my image.  I cut him on the Silhouette.

Then there is the messy Teen card.  I used some We R Memory Keepers school paper and stickers.  I distressed the background with sandpaper.  I thought texting words was perfect for today's teenager.

The next challenge was Critter Love.  I used an image from Doodle Pantry called Hoppy Log.  It just happens to be an Operation Write Home fundraiser set.  The sentiment is from My Favorite Things.

The Inching Toward Christmas challenge wanted us to use one of the OWH sketches that have one inch squares as part of the design.  I used sketch #175.  Great way to use up those scraps.

The last challenge of the weekend was to use something faux on the card.  I picked the easy one - a paper button.

I do hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend.

VCMP Friday Challenge Entries

I've been playing along with the Operation Write Home Virtual Card Making Party  so here are my completed cards for the July 4th challenges:

There's Always the Other Side - make cards for both masculine and feminine from the same OWH sketch.  I chose sketch #230 and Doodle Pantry images.

TGIF - make a thank you card using spray inks or gelatos.  I chose gelatos for my card and used embossing for the image.

Paper Piecing for Kids - I chose a birthday card using a cricut image of Hello Kitty.

Red, White and Blue Birthday - I chose a print and cut image from Silhouette and made a celebration card that can be used for birthday as well as other occasions.

Colored Background - I chose to use inks sponged on white paper for my background.

Winter cards - I chose an image from My Favorite Things and made 2 cards.  One is in traditional red for the holidays and the other in blue.

For the Boyz

WELCOME to the 4th of July Virtual Card Making Party for Operation Write Home.  I feel so privileged to have been selected to present a challenge for this event!  I love making cards for OWH and supporting our troops.  4th of July seems like the perfect opportunity to present a challenge and participate in the card making party.  What fun!

My challenge to you is to make a masculine card using a vintage image.  It can be anything.  How about a sports image?  Maybe an old time piece?  Do you have a stamp of an old train or other type of transportation?  Look through some clip art if you don't have a stamp.  I'm sure you can come up with something vintage, just make sure it's masculine.

For my first card, I selected an old car from Doodle Pantry's Classic Cars I collection.   The image and background are both from this collection.   They have several collections that support Operation Write Home.

I made a second card using Crafty Secrets Golf Time Digital Stamp Set,  I colored the images with Prismacolor Premier pencils after I printed them on kraft paper.  This set is perfect for golfers. I'm sure some of them will be out on the courses all weekend after that long hard winter we had this year.

I hope my challenge has given you some inspiration to make some wonderful masculine cards!  Enjoy your 4th of July weekend.  The next challenge will be at 2:00 PM EST and I'm sure it will be a wonderful one to spark your interest!  So keep that card making going in between those holiday BBQ's!  Be sure to link up your creation and of course, comments are alays welsome.  All the best for a great weekend.....

Pink, Gray and Cheeseburgers

I takes me a little time to get the mojo for a challenge.  The May 28th OWH mid week challenge was a pink and gray card.  Here's my results:

Minnie Mouse is really closer in  color to the ribbon in real life.  She looks a little "grayed" out in the scan.   The June 4th challenge is cheesburgers or BBQ.  Since I already have this digi from Doodle Pantry and it's an OWH fundraiser digi, I had to use it for the challenge:

Hope you enjoy my challenge entries.

Great Impressions and Doodle Pantry

Hope everyone had a great time visiting all of the great stops on the Operation Write Home Memorial Day Blog Hop!  Then this last weekend there was the Great Impressions Blog Hop.  Check that one out if you missed it.  They have some great cards and really nice stamps.  Some of the stamps are fundraisers for OWH.  The highlight of the hop was sketch number 227 shown as a rectangle or circle.

So first I tried the rectangle and decided to make it manly for the Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge #47.   I really like their images for cards.  They work so well with my Silhouette.

Then I tried the circle sketch using the Doodle Pantry June Fundraiser image.  It's on sale for a few more days.  Do check it out!

A few months ago, I found a bunch of pencil pouches at the local thrift store.  They are perfect for organizing card kits.  I can fit up to a dozen card kits in one pouch.   They keep them clean and organized until ready to go.   They lay flat and make them easy to pack for class.

Another item I found useful is pet food bags.  Washed and cut, they make great craft mats for class.

Hope you are all ready for a great summer!

OWH Memorial Day Blog Hop

OWH Memorial Day Blog Hop

Hope you are enjoying the OWH Memorial Day Blog Hop.  They are always so much fun and it's great to see all of the talent out there.  Memorial Day is always special for me as that was the day I got married to my late husband.  He was a Viet Nam vet so this seems like a special way to honor him and our special day.

I could not decide which card to post today so here is the first one.

The sentiment is from the Silhouette store, Lucky Charm paper from American Crafts and stamp is from the Stampin' Up Set Sail set.

The die cut of Minnie Mouse is from Cuttlebug, You Rock die cut from My Favorite Things, and paper is miscellaneous stock.

So after you leave a comment move on to the rest of the hop.  There is lots more to see!  You don't want to miss any of the goodies out there!

Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge #46

I love Doodle Pantry images.  They make creating card kits so easy and fun.  Their May challenge is to use any digital image in a card.  Of course, they really appreciate it if you use their image but any will do.  Be sure to visit the challenge and enter.  There are some great free images to be had if you use their images.  Great ideas for card making.   Here's the card I've created for May.

This card was created using Charlie Horse and Hey!  Paper from We R Memory Keepers.  I used the Silhouette Design Studio to pull in the images and cut them out.   This card will be going to Operation Write Home so one of our Heroes can let someone know how much they are missed.

Today I ran across a post about Polka Doodles.  They are running a blog hop to celebrate their 5th birthday!  They have some really adorable digis.  If you check out their blog hop, you can score some really great free digis.  Check out their 5 Years of Polkadoodleicious!! blog hop and see their designers in digi form!

So glad you stopped by.  Hope to see you again soon!

ODBD May Challenge

The ODBD challenge for May at Operation Write Home is embossing.  I chose to do a card in dry embossing I've been going through my left over pieces of this and that.  Here's one of the cards from that exercise:

The image is from Graphic 45 paper.  I don't remember the name of the embossing folder.  You never know what you will find in the scrap box!

OWH cardmaking for April

The Pennbrooke ladies have done it again and completed a nice batch of cards to send to Operation Write Home.  I created the kits with images from Doodle Pantry, Lettering Delights, and Silhouette.  Digital images are so easy to use for kits.  Being able to cut them on the Silhouette makes it even easier.  Here are the April kits that were completed:

Father's Day deadline is coming up soon so our focus was on masculine cards.  I think these would work for Father's day or most any other occasion that requires a masculine card.

OWH Sketch #219

Doodle Pantry sponsored Operation Write Home's Sketch Challenge #219.  They make the greatest doodles for card making.  It's a great place to get inspiration.  So I had to join along with this card:

This was an easy and fun card to make.

Western Request

Operation Write Home had a request for western type cards.  I didn't have much time but I had started a kit for jean pockets.  Thought it might make a good western theme.  So here's my quick and simple card:

I did a few cards with cows earlier so maybe they can be used for a western requestor.  At least they could be considered country!  :)

So that's it for my western cards.  At least for today!  February is almost over so I guess I'd better get rolling on kits for March!

Absolutely Fantastic Group

Thursday night was Operation Write Home night at our Activity Center Craft Room.  I made 24 kits for the crafters and all the kits were finished!  The final card count was 238 cards made that night.  Cards made at home were Marge 38, Theresa 8 and Andrea 7.  The total for the group was 276.  I think we have enough for a large box to be on it's way to Operation Write Home.  Here's a picture of the completed cards made with the group:

Thanks so much to all who participated: Marge, Jean, Theresa, Barb, Pat, Betsy, Kay, Debbie, Lee, Glenna and Jan!   Now to get on to making kits for next month.

BACON

I saw this technique somewhere on the internet and had to try it.  I'd post the link but I don't remember where I saw it.  Bacon seems to be the thing right now so I used that theme for this card that is going to Operation Write Home.  The "bacon" is made with copic markers and satin ribbon.  My ribbon was the cheap stuff so I'm sure it must be some sort of acrylic fiber.

I think it would work great for the "punny" challenge!

COWS

My friend, Theresa, found some cowhide patterned ribbon.  She challenged me to come up with some uses for it on cards.  I found some really cute images on Dollar Doodles and went to town on my new Silhouette.  Using the print and cut makes it easy to cut the images out.  So here's the results using other supplies I had on hand:

Card Bowl 2014

So Operation Write Home is challenging card makers with a card bowl.  So here we go.  First challenge is to make a masculine card with the colors of the super bowl team that you like best.  So how do I choose?  I've live in the northwest and Colorado both.  So I guess I'll just do one card for each team.

So the second challenge is to make something for the ODBD February Challenge,  That's easy enough.  The challenge is to use brown in a masculine card.  Brown is my go to color for mats so here is the result.

Now the third challenge in the card bowl is to make a card using the Sunday sketch for a masculine card.  It was a simple sketch this week and they need thank you cards.

That's my take on Card Bowl 2014.  Hope you enjoy my masculine cards.
